Discussion 3 evidence Based practice Mixed Methods

Many hospitals are seeking Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The original 14 Forces of Magnetism were based on research findings from a study published by Kramer and Schmalenberg. Review the ANCC website to discover the role of nursing research in the Magnet process.

What is the role of nursing research in the Magnet process?

According to the Grove Model, what questions does the nurse pose to assess the quality and usefulness of EB guidelines?
Part two: Developing Clinical Questions to Identify Evidence for Use in Practice

Introduction: Using current best research evidence is best guided by a relevant clinical question using the PICOT format. PICOT is useful in creating a searchable question, identifying, and critically appraising the relevance of the literature found, and developing evidence-based protocols, algorithms, guidelines, and policies for practice.

• The PICOt format includes:
P— Population of interest

I— Intervention needed for practice (new one)

C— Comparisons of interventions to determine the best intervention (current or old one)

O— Outcomes needed for practice and ways to measure the outcomes in practice

    T – Time (6-7 week Semester)

Critical Thinking Activity: Review the Knapp article (posted in Content) on assisting families of ICU patients in managing stress. Apply the PICOt format to determine an EBP question. Or Make up a PICOt question.

  1. Review the examples of nursing-sensitive outcomes from Doran and colleagues’ review and their definitions in Table 14-1 (page 472 ) of your textbook (2015 or 2018/2019 edition). Select two of the outcomes and relate how, from your experience, nursing actions are directly related to that outcome.
  2. Go to the National Database Nursing Quality Indicators website at: http://www.nursingquality.org/. Describe the process of data collection at NDNQI.
  3. Nurse researchers conduct studies to change practice, improve patient outcomes, and contribute to the knowledge base of nursing. Dissemination is an essential step in the research process. If you were asked to debate this statement, what would be the pro argument to support the statement?
Post a total of 400 word count response to questions follow with a 100 word count reply to 2 course mates.
